Update to Outing on April 18- Community Gardens at Edison 9am-2pm

Earth Day is April 22nd and Arbor Day is April 24th. There are two Pack events planned on Saturday, April 18th to celebrate. One will be from 8 am to noon at the confluence of the South Platte and Cherry Creek Rivers which will involve tree planting, pruning, weeding and trial maintenance.
The other event will be a ground-breaking for the new Community Garden at Edison. The Edison Green Wellness Team, Denver Urban Gardens and community members have been planning this garden for months. There will be approximately 35 garden plots and 1/3 of these will be used as a living classroom for the students at Edison, and 2/3s of these will be for community members to plant vegetables/flowers in. In the garden there will be common areas including a courtyard, paths, raised discovery beds, a fruit tree orchard and a new arbor/fence entryway. There may also be areas with berries, herbs, flowers, ornamental grasses, a pumpkin patch, and a wind sculpture or sun dial. Children may make birdhouses and also use their handprints/footprints/art to personalize garden walking stones. There will be a shade structure and seat wall/benches to sit on and enjoy the garden. There will be a shed for storing tools and a compost bin with the eventual plan to start composting waste from the lunchroom in it.
The ground-breaking will be on Saturday, April 18th from 9 am to 2 pm. It would be great to have lots of Scouts from Pack 11 there helping out. You wouldn't have to stay the entire time. Over 20 students and alumni from Colorado State University's Global Campus are planning on being there to help out too, and there should be lots of community members.

so..bike ride is cancelled that was originally scheduled
